7+ Admissions Tuition

6-7 years

The 7+ exam is an entrance assessment typically taken by children in the Autumn term of Year 2, aiming for admission into Year 3 the following September. This exam is a common entry point for many independent schools in the UK. Schools such as King's College School (KCS) conduct their assessment days as early as October, while most others, such as Westminster Under and St Paul’s Juniors hold the first round of exams in November / December.

The Entry Process

Considered the "wild west" of entry points as there is no standardised format or regulatory oversight from bodies like the Independent Schools Examinations Board (ISEB). Each school sets its own exam structure, content, and assessment criteria, leading to significant variations across institutions.

What The Process Typically Involves

01

Written or computer-based exams in Mathematics, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning.

02

Interviews, further testing, references and parent meetings. For further information on the 7+ process, please refer to our FAQs below.

Competition For Admissions

The 7+ entry point is highly competitive due to the limited number of places available versus the high number of applicants. For example, Westminster Under School receives over 500 applications for just 22 places. Such ratios mean that only a small percentage of applicants secure a spot, making thorough preparation essential to maximise your child’s chances of success.
